Christ In All We Do

Non-Executive Directors of the Board (Trustees)

St Christopher’s Multi-Academy Trust seeks to recruit two Non-Executive Directors to its Board of Directors (Trustees), possessing expertise in general business management or an education background.

It is essential that the candidate shares the values of the Trust, with a strong commitment to its Christian foundation. The candidate must be able to give regular time to connect with students, staff, parents and governors thus informing their work as a board member and enabling flourishing communities. Board meetings are facilitated by the clerk to the board and held at Basepoint Business Centre, Exeter.

About the Trust

St Christopher’s Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) was established in 2013 and operates 17 primary academies in Axminster, Beer, Exeter, Plymouth, Torquay and Tavistock/West Devon. The schools within the Trust work as a community, within communities, to provide every pupil with a high quality, principled education. The Trust plays an active role in enabling every school to flourish within a Christian foundation. As an outward-looking organisation the Trust seeks to learn from others as well as to share its own good practice and expertise.

Plans for the future

The key challenges for the board over the next 12-24 months are:

  • To enable equitable provision across the Trust schools, regardless of resourcing levels
  • To continue to hold in tension the school versus whole Trust needs when decision making

Over the longer term, the Trust aspires to be a significant voice on education within the county of Devon and one of the happiest Trust’s in the sector, where both pupils and staff really do flourish.

The Trust’s non-executive directors are both charity Trustees and company directors of the multi academy Trust; the role is to hold to account the executive and senior leadership team, manage the business of the academy Trust and exercise all the powers of the Trust, ensuring compliance with its charitable objects and with company and charity law.

In the interests of safeguarding, all Trustee appointments would be subject to an enhanced disclosure and barring service check.

Please submit a CV and a short expression of interest detailing your experience for this role to Andrew Bailey, Chair, c/o Kirsty.Forbes@stcmat.org. To arrange a further discussion about the Director role with the Chair of the Board of Directors please contact the Clerk to the Board, Kirsty.Forbes@stcmat.org.

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love that you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 6:10
