Upton St James are seeking a Headteacher to lead their school on a secondment basis for two terms, starting from January 2021. Upton St James is part of St Christopher’s Trust - a growing family of 17 Church and Community Schools spanning three local authorities. The Trust has an established network of Headteachers, working collaboratively to support leaders to learn and grow as a community.
We are a welcoming school that aims to support its diverse community, situated in an area of Torquay with high deprivation where around half of the pupils are eligible to free school meals. The school benefits from having a dedicated parent support advisor, who works tirelessly and effectively to build relationships with families alongside the staff team. We were the first school in Devon to achieve the UNICEF rights Respecting Gold award and this sits central to our mission and approach. As well as 103 pupils that are eager to learn about respect for themselves and of others, you will find a committed staff team that’s passionate about delivering a broad and balanced curriculum for all.

To apply, you will need to be a passionate practitioner who is not afraid of doing what’s being asked of others and has a clear vision for the curriculum. Someone who already has some experience in a school leadership position, you are willing to share your knowledge of current teaching affairs with others and happy to embrace and flourish within our school values. You will be adept at supporting staff to overcome and remove barriers to learning for all pupils; equally as comfortable meeting parents each day as you are collaborating with Trust colleagues to create wonderful places of learning. Finally, you’ll be committed to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of pupils and protecting and enhancing the Anglican ethos, working with the Church and guided by Christian values.
